WASHINGTON — The U.S. military has received a new video of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was captured during his deployment to Afghanistan in 2009, a defense official told Stars and Stripes on the condition of anonymity.
The so-called “proof of life” video of Bergdahl, 27, appears to have been made recently, said the official, who would not specify exactly when the material was received or how it was obtained.
Bergdahl, the only U.S. prisoner of war, is thought to be held by the Haqqani network in Pakistan.
“We’ve been working everyday since 2009 to secure his release,” the official said.
A Pentagon spokeswoman said she could not discuss details of the effort to bring the Idaho native home, but said it is a whole-of-government effort.
