160th SOAR Helo Crash Victim Identified as CPT Clayton Carpenter | RallyPoint.com

HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD -
Update 4:30 p.m. 1/17/14

The military has identified the victim as Capt. Clayton Carpenter.

Carpenter, 31, was a native of Brooklyn, NY and a 2005 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

He served as a Special Operations Helicopter Platoon Leader.

He is survived by his parents Paul and Colette Carpenter of Cortland Manor, NY.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.



UPDATE:

One person has died, two others are injured in the "hard landing" of a Blackhawk helicopter at Hunter Army Airfield last night.  We do not know if it was the pilot or a crew member that was killed.  There were three people onboard the aircraft.  Major Allen Hill says there was no known mechanical issue during the flight.

UPDATE:

Congressman Jack Kingston has released a statement regarding the "hard landing" at Hunter Army Airfield late Wednesday.

Kingston says:
"My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the incident at Hunter Army Airfield last night.   We recognize all servicemen and women that put their lives at risk every day in the name of freedom. Our gratitude cannot be measured."
